Kai Schmidhuber started Ai-Retail, a consulting agency for the DISRUPTIVE DIGITIZATION OF CORPORATE ORGANIZATIONS, with great ambitions. Together with cooperating IT and CRM agencies, media partners, design and advertising networks and a bunch of simply the best freelance managers in the digital industry, he aims to offer the fastest solutions-provider and project management firm for the rapid digitalization of classic corporate organizations.
Kai is a digital strategy mastermind, logistics innovator, communications expert and manic entrepreneur by all means. In a nutshell: Kai makes a living bringing new things into the world – ideas, products and businesses – that did not exist before. He combines more than 13 years of working experience in disruptional projects of large multinational corporations with entrepreneurial spirit and a special madness for “one of a kind” business challenges. As thought leader in the digital field, Kai is a highly requested keynote speaker on numerous international events and exhibitions.
Today, Kai serves as Chief Digital Officer for L’Oréal Group Germany. He is responsible for the overall digital transformation of the worldwide beauty leader. His key responsibilities are data science & e-commerce acceleration, personalization, CRM, all fields of digital excellence (search, data, KPI), innovation and startups, organizational transformation and upskilling.

Before becoming CDO of L’Oréal, Kai served as Senior Vice President, responsible for the digitization strategy, UX, e-commerce, CRM, and mobile applications, at Frankfurt Airport, Europe’s busiest international airport and travel retail destinations. He has created a unique Omnichannel platform for the Frankfurt Airport through an innovative and agile development approach.
The aim of the project was to connect travel-relevant information, service offerings and shopping opportunities – and thus to digitize the Frankfurt airport. This initiative is considered to be the most demanding and comprehensive project in the digitization of airports and travel retail, to date.
Kai began his career as an industrial business management assistant. Following his vocational training, he studied economics with the focus on management and marketing. He successfully concluded his studies with a degree in economics and marketing.
During this time, Kai Schmidhuber founded an internet venture, which today operates an ecosystem of Europe’s most successful online shops for customized fortune cookies.
After joining Henkel, a globally leading multinational consumer-goods producer, Kai took over responsibility for the company’s international corporate brand strategy and communications.
Subsequently, he switched to the world’s leading mail and logistics corporation, DeutschePost DHL, where he held various managerial positions in business areas related to online and e-commerce. In 2013, Kai Schmidhuber became Vice President Product Development. In this role, he was responsible for developing new business areas, including Germany’s third-largest online shopping marketplace, the launch of same-day and prime delivery services, and the development of parcel services using delivery drones.
